[Explainable AI Team Seminar] NLP for Mental Health: Risk, Promise, Responsibility by Prof. Irina Gurevych

RIKEN AIP's Explainable AI Team hosts an online seminar by Prof. Iryna Gurevych of the UKP Lab at TU Darmstadt, a past president of the Association for Computational Linguistics. The talk examines how natural language processing can help address the global shortage of mental health care, as more people turn to unsupervised chatbots. Drawing on her group's research, she shows how large language models can turn therapy transcripts into treatment-relevant structure, how clinically grounded synthetic data eases privacy constraints, and why evaluation should reflect what clinicians actually care about rather than what is easy to benchmark. The seminar runs on Zoom and is open to all registered participants.
