Summary
A mixed lecture and hands-on workshop that teaches how AI works from the ground up, using Google Colab to run Python directly in the browser. Participants follow the development of the field in order, from the Turing test to rule-based AI, the perceptron, and multilayer neural networks, implementing each step themselves.
The programme covers building a simple rule-based conversational AI with conditional branching, training a perceptron on AND and OR, confirming the limitation that a single-layer model cannot solve XOR, and then using a multilayer neural network with backpropagation in PyTorch to learn XOR while visualising how the loss changes. Terms such as perceptron and backpropagation are explained as they come up.
The session is aimed at people with no programming experience and at anyone who wants to understand how generative AI works. Attendance is free, capacity is 5 people, and the minimum age is 15. Bring a laptop and create a Google account beforehand. Meeting time is 12:50 at TIB FAB on the 2nd floor of Tokyo Innovation Base in Marunouchi.
About the community
A small-group learning programme run by the digital fabrication studio inside a Tokyo-run startup support hub in Marunouchi. It holds a continuing series of beginner and skill-building courses on AI, programming, and digital fabrication equipment, with capacity of only a few people per session so the instructor can work alongside each participant. Attendance is free, and prior membership registration and a ticket booking are required.
