Summary
This Tokyo edition of JICA BLUE CARAVAN, titled AFRICA BUSINESS BOOSTER, takes up the theme of turning local realities and voices into business acceleration. Practitioners already running businesses in Africa and JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteer alumni (OVs) preparing to launch or expand their own ventures share what they have learned on the ground. The event is held in person at Tokyo Innovation Base in Marunouchi, free of charge, with a capacity of around 100 people.
Part 1 is a talk session featuring the representative of A-GOAL, the COO of WASSHA, and a member of JICA's Africa Department, who discuss how to start and scale business in Africa, drawing on collaboration with Japanese companies and startup proofs of concept. In Part 2, three volunteer alumni present the results of needs-validation research they conducted locally in pitch format, followed by feedback and Q&A from the Part 1 speakers.
Part 3 is a networking and co-creation matching session where participants can talk directly with speakers and returned volunteers. The event targets companies considering entry into Africa, new business developers, VCs and CVCs, local governments, volunteer alumni, and students, aiming to create concrete opportunities for collaboration. Note that registration is handled through a dedicated form, not the Peatix page.
About the community
JICA BLUE CARAVAN is a nationwide event series born from BLUE, JICA's entrepreneurship support project for Overseas Cooperation Volunteer alumni. Traveling across Japan, it connects the experience and perspectives that returned volunteers gained in international cooperation with the practice of entrepreneurs, companies, and local governments, using pitches and talk sessions to explore how that experience can benefit society. Participation is open to anyone, including companies, local governments, NPOs, and students, not just volunteer alumni.
