Summary
Space Cafe Tokyo is a monthly evening talk that puts a working scientist in front of a general audience at a bar in Shimokitazawa. The September 2026 edition is titled "Eruptions on Enceladus: Whispers of an Unseen Ocean" and looks at Saturn's small icy moon, where geyser-like plumes carry material from a subsurface ocean out into space.
Dr. Lucas Fifer, a postdoctoral research scientist at the Earth-Life Science Institute at Institute of Science Tokyo, will explain how spacecraft measurements of those eruptions let researchers work out the chemistry of the hidden ocean and judge whether it could host life. He holds a PhD in planetary science and astrobiology from the University of Washington, Seattle.
The venue is Good Heavens British Bar in Shimokitazawa. Doors open at 19:30 and the talk starts at 20:00. Tickets are 1,500 yen in cash at the door and include the first drink.
