Building Your Startup in Japan: Startup Visa, Explained

A 45-minute online session explaining how Japan's Startup Visa works and how founders based outside Japan can use it to set up a company in Tokyo. The format is 30 minutes of presentation followed by 15 minutes of live Q&A with the visa team, and the recording plus slides go out to registrants afterward. The walkthrough covers the visa process step by step, the eligibility bar (a master's degree or higher in business management or a field related to the proposed business, plus at least one year in a leadership or managerial role relevant to it), the documents required, and what happens after arrival: incorporation, opening a bank account, and the ongoing support available. It also gives an overview of the startup ecosystem in Shibuya and what the support program offers international founders. The session is aimed at India-based founders ahead of Bengaluru Tech Summit and is co-hosted with that summit and the Government of Karnataka, with support from Carve Startup Labs.
