Summary
TSUKUBA CONNÉCT #87 centers on Physical AI: AI that has stepped off the screen and into factories, logistics, mobility, and body-worn devices. The Tsukuba evening brings together startups, researchers, engineers, investors, and corporates to discuss how intelligence in motion will reshape industry and what role Tsukuba's research cluster plays in that shift.
In session 2, Fujitsu's Uvance Innovation Studio Senior Manager Shogo Kuwaoka and HEAD / Edge Planning & Promotion Hisamichi Katagiri present Fujitsu's Physical AI business, customer pain points from Japan and abroad, and the design of an open innovation ecosystem linking Japanese manufacturers and startups. PITCH ARENA vol.58 (Physical AI) follows with Closer, revot systems, Willog, and QueryPie AI pitching to commentator Yoshinobu Ichimura of Prometheus. A parallel ecosystem pitch session features Tsukuba Research Support Center, the University of Tsukuba, AIST, and Joyo Bank.
The Creative Lab track runs STARTUP CAREER MEETUP Vol.20, a Physical AI futures workshop led by UTokyo IIS Associate Professor Momoyo Matsuyama, and a talk on AI in fundamental physics theory by Professor Takahiko Matsubara of KEK. The venue is Tsukuba Startup Park, a five-minute walk from Tsukuba Station Exit A1 on the TX Line. Networking runs throughout from 17:30 to 21:00, and remote participation is available via the Join Remotely button.
About the community
TSUKUBA CONNÉCT is a recurring researcher and founder community run by Venture Café Tokyo in Tsukuba. It draws on the region's dense cluster of research institutes, setting a theme each edition and running parallel tracks of pitches, themed sessions, workshops, and networking. The format is built to bring research seeds and businesses, and Tokyo and global networks with Tsukuba-grown implementation, into the same room.
