Summary
The 97th regular meetup of the Mozilla Japan translation community, where participants translate the Japanese edition of MDN Web Docs, the cross-vendor documentation site for web technologies. The session is online only: everyone works from home and uses the #translation channel on Slack to ask questions, report progress and help each other. There is a mid-session check-in on Google Meet around 15:00, and results are shared at the 17:00 closing.
Since MDN's platform migration, translation has moved from a wiki to a workflow built around GitHub pull requests, and members who can answer questions about it will be on hand. First-time MDN translators and people less confident in English are welcome, with help on translation basics and using GitHub. Proofreading drafts into natural Japanese is also a valued contribution. Experienced translators can sign up as tutors to support newcomers. Bring a PC you can translate on.
About the community
A volunteer community translating MDN Web Docs into Japanese, holding a regular meetup on a Saturday afternoon each month. It draws people interested in web standards and new web technologies, those who want to sharpen their translation skills, and anyone looking to get involved in open source, with day-to-day discussion on Slack. Meetups were held at a venue before COVID-19 and now continue online.
