Summary
RIKEN AIP's Explainable AI Team hosts an online seminar by Prof. Simone Teufel of Cambridge University's Department of Computer Science and Technology, a researcher in natural language processing and discourse linguistics. She will present a step-by-step method for writing more convincing scientific papers and theses, developed over 30 years of commenting on students' writing.
The talk argues that the argumentation strategy behind English scientific writing is simple and narrow, and that with minimal linguistic knowledge anyone, native speaker or not, can improve both their writing and their analytical thinking about their own work. The method applies to long and short texts alike, and interested students can reserve one-to-one sessions to troubleshoot a current draft.
The seminar runs on Zoom and is open to anyone who registers; the link is sent to registered participants only.
