[In-Person] JJUG Night Seminar: Valhalla, Now!

The August JJUG night seminar takes on Project Valhalla, the OpenJDK effort Java developers have tracked for years while waiting for it to land. With a preview in JDK 28 now looking realistic, this session is given over entirely to the first step of that work: value types. The talk covers the syntax and semantics of value types, their performance characteristics, the limits of what they can and cannot do, and the next steps Valhalla plans to take. Value types allow identity-less, more primitive-like classes, and the session is as much about what they will not solve as what they will. The stated goal is that attendees leave knowing what value types can do in JDK 28, and what remains ahead on a road to Valhalla that is still long. The speaker is Nicolai Parlog (nipafx), a Java Developer Advocate at Oracle who focuses on language features, core APIs, and runtime evolution, and who is known for the biweekly Inside Java Newscast.
