OSS Gate Osaka Workshop

A hands-on workshop where participants actually take part in open source development. The goal is to support the very first step into OSS contribution. This is the first Osaka session in six years and nine months, hosted at R3 Institute (gusuku Ashibinaa OSAKA), which has moved from Honmachi to the 16th floor of Grand Front Osaka Tower C. There are two participation tracks: "beginners" and "supporters". Beginners are people who have never contributed to OSS, or who have contributed but do not yet feel confident. Supporters are people already active in OSS development. The beginner cap grows with the number of registered supporters, so signing up from the waitlist is encouraged. There is no limit on supporters, and first-time supporters only need a GitHub account to take part. Doors open at 13:00. After an icebreaker and a walkthrough of the OSS contribution process, each beginner and supporter pair picks a project and runs it following its official documentation. Installation problems, runtime issues, and documentation gaps found along the way are fed back to the project as GitHub issues or pull requests. The day closes with a retrospective at 18:00, followed by an optional social. Participants should create a GitHub account beforehand and bring a laptop with a version control client, a language runtime or compiler, and an editor already installed.
