Summary
RIKEN AIP's Geoinformatics Team hosts a research talk by Alba Vilanova Cortezon of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, presenting Providentia, an evaluation software package built for the atmospheric modelling community. The tool supports in-depth analysis of in-situ surface observations together with colocated model output. The talk centers on reproducibility in model evaluation. Because results can vary with how observations are processed and how statistics are computed, Providentia relies on harmonised datasets such as GHOST and ACTRIS and on fully documented, configurable statistics, so that two users sharing the same configuration file can be confident their evaluations are identical. The session also covers Providentia's use modes: an interactive dashboard for quick visualisations, a report mode that generates PDF outputs, a library mode for use inside scripts and Jupyter notebooks, a download mode that retrieves and formats observational and model datasets like CAMS forecasts, and an interpolation mode that colocates model output with observational stations.
About the community

A research team focused on geoinformatics that runs talks bringing in external speakers to present scientific software and methods for spatial and environmental data analysis. Sessions are technical and aimed at researchers and engineers.
