Summary
An online hands-on session that walks through how to embed Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano into web apps via the Built-in AI API. Because the model runs locally on the user's device, there are no API fees, so developers can add AI features without worrying about cost.
The speaker is Yoichiro Tanaka, CTO of Tably Inc. and a Google Developers Expert in Web Technology. From 19:10 to 20:40 he will demonstrate the new browser-only AI development workflow under the title "Getting started with the Chrome Built-in AI API." The event targets beginner to intermediate web developers and anyone curious about embedded AI or local LLMs.
Requirements include a laptop with Chrome installed, at least 22 GB of free disk space on the Chrome profile volume, a GPU with more than 4 GB VRAM or a CPU with 16 GB+ RAM and 4+ cores, and Windows 10/11 or macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. The session is part of GDG's global Build with AI workshop campaign and is free to join.
